We woke up to some rain this morning in Florence. We had a buffet breakfast at the hotel, took in the views from our balcony one last time before heading to the train station to go to Rome.  I even spotted this brightly colored Porsche 911.

On the way to the train station, I took this photo up the sun rising behind the Arno river.

We arrived in Rome around 1pm. Our room at the Marriott Grand Flora wasn’t quite ready, so they recommend San Marco for lunch. It was only a two block walk and we were starving. We both ordered a Margarita Pizza. Again, some of the best Pizza ever!

After lunch, we started exploring the city. It had a much different feel than Florence. While Florence streets were narrow and crowded, Rome felt more like a large city. Wider streets, less cobblestone and more asphalt. It was noticeably less crowded feeling too, while maybe not at the major attractions.

Crowds at the Pantheon

One downside we noticed in Rome, so much construction. Many of the major sites like Trevi Fountain, Castle St Angelo, and the Colosseum had areas closed, or blocked by barriers. Trevi fountain was actually drained and non functioning with a scaffolding walkway for viewing. The line was incredibly long and we didn’t bother with it.

Below are some of the sites we visited.

Villa Borghese: It is a massive park with numerous statues and fountains.

Villa Borghese Gardens

Pantheon: It was so crowded, we actually came back earlier another day and it was much less busy.

Once our sightseeing day was over, we headed to the rooftop bar where we had a view of the Vatican’s St Peter’s Basilica. I didn’t realize how tired my legs were until I sat down.  We walked miles!

Tonights dinner was ravioli and pasta amatriciana.
