Our first game drive started around 3:30pm on the day we arrived. The weather was a bit windy, but overall fairly pleasant. It didn't take long to start seeing the wildlife South Africa has to offer. This young elephant scurried across the road in front of us. As he moved to the right, we saw several other elephants in the area.

As we continued our drive, the sun was setting and casting a golden amber color on the landscape. It was at this time we came across a male and female lion laying near a tree.

After a brief burst of activity, the lions settled back down, so we continued on in search of another sighting.

Along the way, we came across these White-fronted Bee-eaters and a Dwarf Mongoose.

And then we came across our first leopard sighting of the trip. It would be 3 of the 11 different leopards we saw during our stay.

The leopard mom, called Picadilly, watched from the hill side as her two cubs fed on an impala kill. It was pulled into a bush and very hard to get a clear view. On top of that, the light was fading fast! JJ used his spot light to lightly illuminate the scene for us to see and photograph. The light doesn't bother the cats.

WARNING: The next series of images are graphic, depicting a leopard cub with an impala kill.

Our time was up and the light was nearly gone. It was time to head back to camp. JJ took us up the hill for a quick viewing of Picadilly, who was still watching over her cubs.
