We had planned a short trip to Sandals Royal Bahamian in Nassau, Bahamas for a quick pre-winter get away. Unfortunately, hurricane Matthew hit a couple of weeks before our planned trip and the island was shut down for recovery. Both sandals resort and the airline were amazing in helping us come up with an alternative destination-and we were able to travel to Antigua with no change fees.
We arrived at Sandals Grande Antigua and as we checked in and looked around, we realized the resort is HUGE! There are two separate sides, the Caribbean beachfront village and the Mediterranean oceanview village. Everything is connected by paths that allow you to access restaurants and amenities on either side of the resort.
We actually stayed on both sides of the resort-because of our last minute booking due to the hurricane we had to stay in a non beach front room the first couple of days because that was all they had available. We were grateful that they were able to accommodate us at all, so it was no problem for us!
We spent the trip eating, drinking and relaxing in the sun on the beach. The only problem with the beach was that it was a public beach, so local vendors approached us constantly trying to sell things. Overall, the resort was nice but the rooms were dated and the public beach is a deal breaker.
I do believe I found the source of their Escargo!
Here is a quick video of the Goodbye song sung to us at our departure.
